A decision is adverse or authority is uncertain

Use the correct waiver, VRS, benefit, and decision-support routes.

  2. Use the VRS appeal route for VRS decisions and each benefit program's own review route for its notices.
  3. Keep SSA work moving while documenting the adult's choices and considering supported decision-making before guardianship.

Urgent need, crisis, abuse concern, or service breakdown

Address immediate safety, then document and correct the system failure.

  2. Report suspected vulnerable-adult abuse through MAARC while separately addressing the waiver or provider failure.
  3. Document changed needs, failed supports, and risk and request the specific reassessment, plan revision, rate review, authorization, or crisis action.
